Applies principles of Pharmaceutical Care to practice including assurance of the correct drug, dose, and route of administration recognition of un-addressed patient needs, recognition and resolution of pharmacotherapeutic problems.Executes such improvements via direct patient care, active committee participation and education of pharmacy staff. Works collaboratively with other clinicians to implement and maintain innovative disease management programs and clinical pharmacy services to optimize patient outcomes.Develops and monitors metrics for AMS program performance including antimicrobial utilization and participates in and maintains restricted antimicrobial approval.Leads and/or supports the DCMC Pediatric Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) Subcommittee, as well as the Austin Texas Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee (ATASC) and the Ascension Health Antimicrobial Stewardship (AHAS) Pediatric AMS Committee. Develops and maintains a collaborative relationship with the pediatric infectious diseases physicians, microbiology department, and infection prevention at DCMCCT.Involved in the maintenance and expansion of a pediatric Antimicrobial Stewardship Program at DCMCCT, and will provide support to other Seton facilities caring for children.Other responsiblites include performing antimicrobial pharmacokinetics, reviewing medication orders, collaborating with other providers, and precepting pharmacy students, pharmacy residents and medical residents. This may be a combination of independent surveillence and/or rounding with the ID team. The resident will receive an Instructor of Clinical Pharmacy appointment in the Division of Health Outcomes and Pharmacy Practice. The resident will also aid in proctoring a small group pharmacotherapy lab at UT. The resident will complete an original research project suitable for presentation at a national meeting and present a seminar to faculty and fellow residents at the University of Texas College of Pharmacy.Īn Academic Training Certificate Program is conducted for residents affiliated with the University of Texas in order to strengthen the resident’s teaching skills.
Research, academics and staffing are required longitudinal experiences. As an American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) accredited PGY1 program, the graduate will also be prepared to pursue a PGY2 residency. At the completion of the program, the resident will be prepared to function, with confidence, as a general clinical practitioner in an acute care setting.
The PGY1 pharmacy residency is a 12 month program designed to expose residents to a rich clinical environment in which they experience concentrated yet diverse training in a variety of pharmacy practice areas.
